makeDirectory(String) -- make a directory

Synopsis

• Function: makeDirectory

• Usage:

  makeDirectory dir

• Inputs:
  • dir, a string, a path to the desired directory
• Consequences:

  • the directory is made, with as many new path components as needed

Description

i1 : dir = temporaryFileName()

o1 = /tmp/M2-1925999-0/0

i2 : makeDirectory (dir|"/a/b/c")

i3 : removeDirectory (dir|"/a/b/c")

i4 : removeDirectory (dir|"/a/b")

i5 : removeDirectory (dir|"/a")

A filename starting with ~/ will have the tilde replaced by the home directory.
